Truck Inspector - automatic measurement of timber trucks
New developments. Among the most relevant novelties is RuScan lumber quality and geometrical parameters scanner with trimming optimization function. This system is designed for lumber sorting lines operating at speeds from 60 to 180 boards per minute.
Truck Inspector hardware and software complex is designed for automatic measurement of the roundwood volume on moving vehicles with the stack method according to GOST (State Standard) 32594-2013 Round timber. Measurement methods.
Measurement accuracy +/-5% is confirmed in the course of acceptance tests (when comparing, the volume obtained on the log sorting line was taken as the standard being the most accurate indicator of the actual volume of a timber batch). Most often, a deviation of only 2-3% is observed.
How Truck Inspector Works
The system consists of a frame with lidar sensors installed on it, which capture the profile of a vehicle moving under the frame. There is no need to stop the vehicle. In addition, each timber truck is photographed from several angles (up to four cameras can be installed on the frame), photo archives are available at any time.
The software allows one to control the timber trucks moving through the traffic lights automatically: the green signal lights up after the end of the primary processing of the model, the collecting the photographs and other data. The interval between the vehicles is no more than a minute.
All the information received is transferred to the program developed by the AVTOMATIKA-VEKTOR IT-specialists. This program builds the truck 3D-model, determines the main geometric parameters of each timber stack, calculates its volume based on thisand generates the reports necessary for the user. Weather conditions (rain, snow, strong wind) do not affect the quality of measurements. Measurements can also be made in the dark.
The measurement process is fully automated. The constant presence of the operator is not required. It is enough to periodically (several times a week, depending on the dust content) monitor the cleanliness of the scanners' optical surfaces. The program notifies the user about the presence of contamination.
The program interface is user friendly and provides all the information on the vehicle and cargo.
The complex is flexible enough to connect additional equipment. Controlled by one or more PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). In addition to additional cameras, you can install additional lighting, a barrier, etc.
Truck Inspector Functions
The main Truck Inspector function is to determine the volume of round timber transported on timber trucks. The calculation is available for different model configurations: vehicle only, vehicle with a trailer, vehicle with a semi-trailer.
In addition, it is possible to measure not only standard trucks, but also other vehicles used for wood transportation.
The software allows to detect different parts of the truck: racks, manipulator, etc. External elements do not affect the measurement results.
In addition, Truck Inspector detects individual log stacks, even with fairly dense stacking. The accounting lengths of logs in stacks can be different.
For each stack it is possible to determine the main geometric parameters (length, width, height), as well as the average diameter of logs with a correction by taper. When determining the height, the shape of the upper part of the stack (“cap”, “pit from the manipulator”, etc.) and the inclination of the racks are taken into account.
If necessary, one can configure the control of the truck dimensions according to the traffic rules: if the maximum values (height, width) are exceeded, the program will send notifications.
All the main calculation parameters are visualized: it is possible to view all the elements separately for clarity.
All information is recorded in the database and can be presented in the form of reports on various filters (acceptance, shipment, for all or for a single vehicle, for a period, for operators, etc.). Complete information on each vehicle is available at any time. There are separate directories for quick filling in vehicle basic information (lists of points of departure and acceptance, senders and recipients, drivers, etc.). Additionally, there is the possibility of manual data entry/correction, which may be necessary if there is another species of wood in the stacks (this often happens during hauling, when cutting areas are being closed).
